The types of skin cancer
Melanoma - Melanoma is the fourth most common cancer that is diagnosed in Australia. Melanoma risk increases with exposure to the UV rays and many sunburns overtime, especially at a young age. Melanoma risk is increased for people who have a family history of melanoma fair skin, freckles, light or red hair in colour.
Non Melanoma Cancer - Non Melanoma skin cancers are most common in Australia, however not life threatening. The two main types of skin cancer under this category are basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. These can be caused by sunburn, tanning and UV exposure.
